I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, goodwill to men
But in despair, I bowed my head
"There is no peace on earth," I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, goodwill to men
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, goodwill to men
Peace on earth, goodwill to men
This song speaks to me more than any other carol of the season. It crosses religious lines and reaches the hearts of all mankind. It speaks of the common emotions we all experience but offers the solace that we are capable of overcoming fear and hate and we can believe that love and goodness will always win. God never stops loving and neither should we.
